Preparing Your Quilt
-
Select your design.
-
Square your quilt top, press your seams and cut any loose threads. Dark threads will show through white fabric….not a good look.
-
Stay stitch your quilt if you do not have a border or if you have a piano key type border. Seams can come lose during the quilting process.
-
Square your quilt backing. Backing must be 8” wider and longer than your quilt top (4” all around). You can add a strip of any fabric if you are short as this is only to hold the quilt to the frame. Excess 2-1/2" strips work great for this.
-
My recommendation if you are a using flannel for your backing is to pre-wash it as it has a tendency to shrink excessively.
-
No salvages please. These are a different weave and can distort your quilt as it moves on the frame.
-
If you do not purchase batting from me, your batting should be the same width as your backing. Please good quality cotton or cotton blend batting only.
